Subtitled 'A History in Documentary Photographs' this volume lays out a visual narrative of a stormy period. (Although a somewhat right-wing politician and writer, Benoist-MTchin was a patron of the famous Paris bookshop Shakespeare and Company and during the Second World War used his connections to secure the release of the shop's American-born owner Sylvia Beach release from a spell of internment). For what it is, there are few Western books to compare in their coverage of this period of Turkish history.
