Ordained in the Diocese of Toronto in 1944, Archdeacon Hilchey served the Anglican Church of Canada in many capacities. After his ordination in Toronto he served in the Dioceses of Toronto, Nova Scotia and Montreal where he was principal of the Montreal Diocesan Theological College from 1974 to 1978. He attended at least a dozen meetings of General Synod as a member and served on the National Executive Council. He was Deputy Prolocutor of General Synod in 1974, Prolocutor from 1975 to 1979 and served as General Secretary under two primates, Archbishops Ted Scott and Michael Peers from 1979 to 1987. After his retirement from General Synod he served Toronto’s Wycliffe College as Director of Development and Communications, acting principal and archivist. He had just finished a book of memoirs called “Ministry in Many Places” before he died in 2006.
